When Thumbwick Candles first started selling scented soy wax wickless candles on their website: www.thumbwickcandles.com, owner Margaret Palecek saw the potential of embedding objects, such as seashells, in the bottom of the candles. Soy wax, which is an opaque white when solid, becomes crystal clear ? much like cooking oil ? when melted, revealing items within the candle."I love the artistic things you can do with gel candles, like underwater seascapes, bakery candles, and candles that look like a tropical drink. They are so cute," says Palecek, "but, I don't like the fact that they are made from a petroleum based gel. I want a natural, environmentally-friendly candle for my family, and for my customers, so I've tried to develop all-natural soy wax candles that have the artistic features of a gel candle."That is exactly what Thumbwick Candles has done with release of their new Appearing Scene wickless soy candle. Palecek went beyond just shells or stones, and thought: Why not make an entire underwater seascape, with hand-blown glass fish and other sea creatures? Or other scenes, like holiday scenes or arctic scenes? "The potential for themes to match any occasion or personality is exciting," she says.
Since the embedded scene is invisible when the candle is solid, a person could give what appears to be an ordinary scented wickless candle and candle warmer as a gift, and the revealed scene would be a complete surprise to the recipient when the candle was melted on the warmer.Still new to the candle market, wickless candles are basically scented candles without a wick. They are not lit like a conventional candle, but rather placed on a warming unit so that the fragrance can be released as the wax melts. The fragrance releasing properties of a wickless candle are even stronger than a lit scented candle, because of the increased amount of melted wax. Without a flame there is no risk of fire or soot damage to your home. And now, with the new lighted candle warmers available, your wickless candle can even have the illuminating properties of a lit candle.Palecek first started making candles from soy wax in 2003, because she was concerned about the environment and the world's dwindling resources.
Most commercially sold candles are made from paraffin wax, which is a byproduct of petroleum refining. When she switched to soy wax in her candle making she found she preferred it to paraffin, because it has much less wick smoking than paraffin, is consumed more slowly, and has better fragrance throw. It is also a renewable and biodegradable resource. Founded in July of 2004, Thumbwick Candles sells natural soy wax candles and candle accessories. How to Write a Holiday Tale that Isn?t a Turkey
When we write stories, with the purpose of sharing them with others, we enter into an agreement where we allow our reader to see a glimpse of our heart, our souls and our memories. If we truly want them to be immersed in the tale, we actively immerse ourselves in those memories so that a glimmer of what we saw, heard and felt comes through. This is especially true with holiday tales. The best way to convey a holiday scene is to take a trip back in time through the wonderful world of our unconscious. Here are some great ways to delve back into our child hood memories and incorporate them into our holiday tales.1) Sit in a darkened room and close your eyes. Allow yourself to go back in time to the very first Christmas that you can remember.
Take a deep breath and relax. What are the scents, sounds and feelings that come up? What is the first picture that pops into your mind? Is it the sound of children racing down the stairs that comes to you first? The feel of your heart pounding...

"I knew absolutely nothing about candles, except for the little paraffin wax candles that burn my fingers when I'm getting a birthday cake ready" explained Chris Anderson, founder of Zionsville, Indiana based Zionsville Candle Company.
"We've been getting alot of media attention from our soy-bean based candle products.
People are amazed out how clean they burn. But the real deal came when an entire shelf-load of burning soy candles came crashing down on my legs.
My employees came running from the noise, and all I could think was- great, their goes that test batch.
But when my employees were asking 'Are you O.K.?' and I realized I had wax all over my legs, did I realize just how safe the soy is!
